Top Wrestlers

Most people think wrestling is crap, and boring...well just watch some! Is that too much to ask?

Sorry, I will coninue...

Wrestling is a super-hard business to succeed in (please don't give me e-mails saying "WRESTLING'S FAKE!"...I know more about wrestling than you, plus I'm not a completely retarded idiot!...there are literally thoudands of wrestlers on this planet, only a couple of hundred ever make it big!...not my penis!) and the ones that do well, the ones that I enjoy watching, the ones that can pull off a decent match and have really worked hard are the one's that are on this page!

Note: There is NO Hulk Hogan or Steve Austin...if you ask why then you're not really a wrestling fan are you?

Check my top 20 list of pro wrestlers...

20. Scott Hall. - He might be a drunk nobody wrestling for NWA now, but back in WWE he was a great IC champ, plus his run in WCW ruled when he was part of the original New World Order!

19. Jake Roberts. - Better known as "The Snake"...this guy's never been the best in the ring, but on the mic and just his appearance is something which just can't be duplicated! Plus: all the stuff that's happened in his life...I'm suprised he hasn't commited suicide in the past 20 or so years.

18. Tazz. - You're probably wondering why he's not furthur up the list, well...He never wrestles any more! But when he did...his suplexes were the best I've ever seen.

17. Shane McMahon. - Shane O'Mac taught all of us a brilliant lesson: you don't have to have huge muscles of even talent to wrestle in the big-legues...you can be the son of the owner of a billion dollor wrestilng company called WWE to!

16. D'Lo Brown. - So you're screaming at the top of your pathetic voices, "Why is D'lo on here?"...Well, it's simple: When I started following wrestling, one of the first talents I ever watched was a young D'Lo Brown. Very under-used by WWE. Great, great wrestler.

15. Yoshihiro Tajiri. - The best cruiserweight, in my opinion who'se ever wrestled. A great style and shows why the Japanese wrestling scene kicks some serious ass!

14. Jerry Lynn. - One of the best performers in the ring or on the microphone. I don't know why he's stuck in the little - legues.

13. Shawn Michaels. - I know he's kinda a legend, he's had great matches, etc. It's just that I've never really got into the HBK thing, but getting on this list is kick-ass...very hard to do!

12. Rob Van Dam. - I know...he's not very high (although he does look it very often) but his matches in WWE today suck compared to the kick-ass (I must use that phrase a little less...NO...it kicks-ass too much!) matches he had with Jerry Lynn and various other wrestlers in good ol' ECW!

Lance Storm! 11. LANCE STORM.
Lance Storm started wrestling in Canada, he was a fan of the legendary Bret Hart and basically always wanted to be a wrestler. He's wrestled in ECW, WCW and today in WWE (remember...WWF, they changed the name already!).

He is very under-rated and underused. The next time WWE has a huge fall in the ratings, will they use the real talent, will they use Lance Storm? NO. Will Vince McMahon and all of his asshole executives care? Probably not. Well I do. Lance Storm is one of the best mat wrestlers and heels (that's wrestling for bad guy) in professional wrestling today!

He also runs a highly succesful and cool website called:
StormWrestling.com

Remeber: I had to chose from about 800 wrestlers who I'd put in the top list, Lance Storm made it to number 11...that aint that bad if you actually use your little brain to think about it.

Dynamite Kid! 10. DYNAMITE KID.
Dynamite Kid is probably one of, if not, the most famous British wrestler ever to come and wrestle in Canada, Japan and America.

I've only ever watched his last few matches (he retired from pro wrestling in 1990) and they were stunning. Most of Chris Benoit's moves are copied from Dynamite Kid. He was a great techincal wrestler who wasn't afraid to take a few risks. Hey: HE MAKES ME PROUD TO BE BRITISH.

Both his book (Pure Dynamite) and his website (DynamiteKid.com) are great and this guy basically rules.

We (or at least me...) salute you Dynamite Kid, my number 10 most favourite wrestler!

Kurt Angle! 9. KURT ANGLE.
Kurt began wrestling in 1999, in 3 years he's been WWE Intercontinental, European, Hardcore, World Heavyweight and much more champions! Plus he held the WCW World Heavyweight title for a few days...oh yeah...and he won the 1996 Olympic Gold Medal for Freestyle wrestling at 220lbs. with a broken-neck! You can talk about your Steve Austins, your Hulk Hogans...even your Rocks but there's only one Kurt Angle.

Now, from all of that above information; you're probably thinking that Angle is just like Bill Goldberg was in WCW, a famous sportsman who comes to wrestling and gets all the glory and titles because the owner wants to hold onto him...WRONG!...

Kurt Angle is one of the greatest perforers in the ring. I've seen him wrestle with Rikishi to Benoit, Crash Holly to Triple H...his matches are all brilliant. He is without a doubt one of the greats of wrestling, considering Angle's only been wrestling for three years he's achieved a lot. He even released his own book called "It's true. It's True." which was a bestseller.

In short, Kurt Angle is a great wrestler, high-flyer (that moonsault rules!) heel and overall a great guy! Number 9 on this list!

Bret Hart! 8. BRET "HITMAN" HART.
Bret Hart started wrestling in the 70s, he's been WWE and WCW World champs. Plus he's a Canadian legend. He has basically done it all, from wrestling 60 minutes with Shawn Michaels for the WWE title at WrestleMania XII to joining the New World Order in WCW. He stopped wrestling in 2000 when he was hit by a dodgey kick from Goldberg.

Bret's matches are always good, but he hasn't made it higher for a combination of simple things...

1. His matches could get repetitve.

2. Some parts of his matches would be stretched out.

3. The sunglasses.

4. He's Canadian.

5. The hair! The hair!

6. All the pink! As Brandon DiCamillo once said, "Pink means pussy!".

But, lets face it, all of the above six points have NO meaning...Bret is still a great wrestler and makes it to a deserving number 9 one my top wrestlers page!

Trish Stratus! 7. TRISH STRATUS.
This part doesn't really mean a lot. It's just that idiots would be e-mailing me time after time saying, "There's nothing on Trish or another good-looking women!".

Lets face it, Trish aint a good wrestler, she got into WWE for her looks. And I truely thank Vince for accepting her as she is extremely entertaining. For example: Put Goldberg and Trish next to eachother, just standing there...Trish would be MORE entertaining. And Bill Goldberg is an amazing wrestler...isn't he? Just forget it...

I'm not taking anything away from any of the wrestlers who work their little-butts off to get to the top (including all the ladies out there) but Trish rules!

(honest: she's only here for looks, she sucks in the ring, and in my bed...ONE DAY!).

Davey Smith! 6. DAVEY SMITH.
To all you idiots out there:
Davey Smith is better known as "British Bulldog". He's been heavyweight champions in Canada, lived with one of the greatest wrestling families in the world - The Harts (Stu, Owen, Bret, etc.) and of-course in WWE (back in the good old days it was WWF!...damn pandas!!!) he won the European title when it meant something, and he had a hardcore title reign which was nice. He died in 2002 in what was in my opinion, dodgey circumstances.

So, I have two British wrestlers in my top 10 wrestlers of all time (to be honest: it's not really of all time...just my favourites).

But Bulldog really does deserve to be on this list, he was at one time a great wrestler, he main-evented many a show with Bret Hart with matches that were so good technically...it could've been NWA, or Sting/Flair in WCW...naw, nothing's that good.

But really...a great wrestler and truely deserving of his placement on this list.

Mick Foley! 5. MICK FOLEY.
Mick Foley, the happy face behind the mask in professional wrestling. He's been "Cactus Jack", "Dude Love" and "Mankind".

He actually hasn't been wrestling for that long, but he rose to the top in 1999, and early - 2000 simply because he is a great performer in the ring and on the mic. If you don't know who Foley is then you've probably watched little, to NO wrestling in your entire life.

Foley has put his life on the line for the fans day in day out (check out his list of injuries)! He's also made it into two of my top five favourite wrestlers. Not bad.

After watching Beyond the Mat I realised how cool this guy was...seriously a great guy, great wrestler and supurb risk-taker...one of the true greats of professional wrestling.

Terry Funk! 4. TERRY FUNK.
When Terry and Mick are sitting together in some cyber-cafe, reading this page they'll notice that Funk is higher...but will they be angry with eachother...heck-NO. Mick will probably laugh at me 'cause he's had a best-selling book, been WWF...WWE Champ. and had two kids...whilst I haven't. Funk will just laugh, realising that he's actually surfing the amazing-nous (is that even a word?) of the internet.

So, instead of just writting about Funk, I'm gonna write about why Funk has made it higher than Mick...

This is simple my friends, Funk has wrestled for 30 years, he's been NWA World champ (a title that actually means something...) and he started up (or at least helped it a lot by virtually destroying himself in barbed-wire matches) a little something called "ECW"! Plus he's been in more deadly matches than I've had hot-dinners! He's wrestled everyone and he's basically fearless. Also, something which puts him even higher is the fact that after all of this, on Beyond the Mat he says...

"People say, wow, 32 years in wrestling...that's a long time!...Well maybee I wasn't smart enough to do anything else."

A great guy, amazing hardcore wrestler...and modest. Believe me, if this guy wasn't from Texas he'd probably be at no. 1 right now.

Terry Funk! 3. TRIPLE H.
Firsly, I'm gonna use "HHH" instead of "Triple H" 'cause it's basically easier...everyone OK with that...good.

Secondly, I don't want e-mails telling me that HHH slept his way to the top of WWE and pro wrestling in general. HHH's wrestling career was going towards tonnes of title reigns, main-events and annoying leg-injuries way before he probably ever met Steph...so lets leave it there!

I'm not 100% sure how determined the Game ever was, but he's a damn good wrestler...he is the GAME! He's pulled off countless amazing matches with worthless opponents, he is one of the wrestlers who truely deserves every title-reign that Vince gives him.

I can't really give this guy much more apart from saying he rules, and that when he retires in 10 (or if he's another Hogan...please NO...another 30 or 40) or so years he'll become a legend!

Sabu! 2. SABU.
If you don't have the tiniest idea who Sabu is then I will forgive you. NO, I didn't make this guy up...he's for real!

He was born in India, became a hardcore wrestler...kicked ass in ECW and basically had some screwed up matches.

This guy has had his neck-broken on two or three occasions, and came back every time (and they weren't cheesy WWE storylines, just dodgey Benoit and Tazz suplexes)! The guy does moonsaults like they're scoop slams and blades himself off of punches and Hogan-taunts...NO, the last one is OK...Hogan taunts are so annoying that cutting yourself with a razor-blade would probably be more enjoyable!

Just watch a few of his matches, e-mail me at tarquingunnell@hotmail.com and I'll swerve you towards some decent ECW home vids with Sabu in them!

This guy is one of the greats and really, really, really does deserve to be number two!!!

Chris Benoit! 1. CHRIS BENOIT.
Yep...here's number one! "The Crippler" Chris Benoit.

You may be screaming, "WHY!"...I'll tell you...

He wrestled in Canada, trained with the Harts (remember those people!), wrestled in Japan. Then in America for ECW, WCW and now WWE. He's a former WCW World champ...if only for a day...but he still rules.

His matches, especially with Kurt Angle are some of the best matches I have ever witnessed, not only from a technical stand-point because Benoit has great talent on the microphone when put over as a heel...all he has to do is walk out to the ring and people will boo.

In my expert opinion, he's a future legend, forget his injuries, forget the time he suplexed Sabu on the back of his neck (which then broke) in ECW...remember the cool stuff...Benoit is the greatest wrestler in the world that I've ever seen, now just three words left:
"Prove me Wrong!"

I had a lot of fun making that page, seriously cool, send your much appreciated feedback to:
